The Real Estate Industry has spent a lot of time and money on trying to convince people that they need to use a real estate agent if they are buying or selling a property, but the reality is that most people are already shopping for homes on their own, using the internet.
What often happens nowadays is that a buyer will shop online until they find a property they want to see, and then they will call a real estate agent to see if they can look at it. The agent tags along, communicates the wishes of the buyer to the seller’s agent, and takes home a big cheque for their efforts, when they really didn’t do anything the buyers couldn’t have done on their own.
As a buyer, you probably already know the style of property you are looking for, the neighbourhoods you would be interested in living in, and the price range of properties you can afford. Why not look on your own, and contact the seller directly? You get to meet the people who are actually selling the property, and negotiate with them directly. You will be amazed how easy and uncomplicated the process can be when you do it on your own, and you may well be able to save money in the process as well.
If you are worried about the condition of the property, hire a home inspector to make sure everything is as it seems.
Now, we understand that not everyone is in a position to look for their next home on their own. Maybe they don’t live in the City they are moving to, or maybe they don’t feel confident in negotiating that kind of a purchase on their own. For those people, we recommend using a Real Estate Agent to help them through the process. But if you are in a position to do it on your own, why not give it a try? You might just be amazed by how enjoyable, easy, and empowering the experience is.
