Tips for taking pictures

When you are advertising your home for sale, first impressions are super important, and that’s why it’s important to have great pictures of your listing. Nowadays, most people use their phones to take pictures, so here are a few tips to help make sure the pictures of your listing look as nice as possible.

Hold your phone sideways – not up and down

The easiest way to take pictures with your phone is to hold it vertically, but those vertical pictures don’t display as nicely on the internet as pictures which are taken with your phone held horizontally.

Use vertical orientation sparingly!

Light it up!

You want your pictures to look as bright and warm as possible, so before you take your pictures, make sure you turn on all the lights and open all the blinds.

And, if you have a flash on your phone or camera, don’t be afraid to use it. We see lots of pictures that are too dark, but hardly any that are too bright!

Clean & de-clutter

The only other thing you need to worry about is to make sure that the rooms you are taking pictures of are clean and de-cluttered as much as possible. In the kitchen, make sure the counters are clean, there are no pictures or notes on the fridge, etc.

In the bedrooms, make sure the beds are made, and the rooms are tidy and clean. In the bathroom, make sure the counters and sink are clean and that the toilet lid is closed.

Here are some more tips for staging your home for sale.

When you are selling your home, first impressions are important – make sure your listing gets off to a great start, with great pictures!
